This is a great write-up by the way, thanks very much for doing this. A couple of things that I would add: If you are like me and like to test things out before putting it all back together, you need to realize that the giant green resistor gets very hot when it is being used, in fact it depends on the same air that it controls and is blowing by it to cool off.

Followed these instructions and found a break in the connection between wire and connector in one of the wires of the adaptor. How this came to be, is a mystery but I managed to open the little female metal pin connector at the end of the wire, reattach it with fiddling and some tape en reassembled the thing.
